For generations, Jamaicans have grown plants in their yards and gardens and used different leaves, roots and herbs to make traditional teas. Many Jamaicans simply call these drinks “bush tea.”
At our herbal garden, you can see some of these plants growing right here on the farm.
Depending on the season, you may see Jamaican herbs and plants such as soursop, cerasee, peppermint, strong back, chaney root, leaf of life, dog blood, Medina and many others.
Instead of only seeing dried herbs in a package, you have an opportunity to see where some of them actually come from.
We enjoy showing visitors the plants, explaining their Jamaican names and sharing some of the traditional ways they have been used. Our herbal garden experience is about education, Jamaican culture and our connection to the plants around us.
You may also have an opportunity to enjoy a freshly prepared cup of Jamaican herbal tea.
For many visitors, this is one of the most interesting parts of the experience. A plant that you may have walked past without noticing suddenly has a name, a history and a place in Jamaican tradition.
Our farm offers a peaceful change from the busy cruise port and crowded tourist attractions. It is a place to walk, learn, ask questions and enjoy the natural surroundings.
We also grow and harvest a selection of herbs from our farm for drying and packaging.
